Scholarship Honors Legacy of Penny Valentine Long-Time Chamber of Commerce Executive Director
Applications Being Accepted for Students Seeking Career in Law Enforcement
North Miami – The Greater North Miami Chamber of Commerce (GNMCC) will be awarding the annual Penny Valentine Scholarship to any person from the North Miami area who is entering the police academy independently and needs assistance paying for the cost of equipment or uniforms.
The award is in memory of Penny Valentine, (July 24, 1921-November 22, 2020) who served in many Chamber leadership roles for more than 40 years, including as Executive Director.
“Penny was a trailblazer who forged a path that has shaped the City of North Miami into what it is today,” said David Burney, Chairman, The Greater North Miami Chamber of Commerce. “We chose the scholarship to sponsor a student going into law enforcement to pay homage in recognition of her passion, which assured the safety, security and growth of our great city.”
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a North Miami resident
- A graduate of North Miami Senior High School or Alonzo Mourning High School
- Currently over the age of 21
- Either have an honorable discharge from military service or maintained a 3.0 GPA in undergraduate studies
Submit application along with an academic resume and a 500-1,000 word essay detailing why a career in law enforcement is your passion.
Deadline to submit is March 31, 2021.
