The mission of ASPIRA of Florida is to foster the social advancement of the Puerto Rican/Latino community by empowering its youth in the pursuit of educational excellence through leadership development programs that emphasize commitment to the community.
WHAT WE DO
ASPIRA of Florida develops the leadership capacity of its youth by engaging them in weekly leadership club meetings guided by a curriculum designed to develop cultural and self awareness, as well as critical thinking and social skills. This is known as the ASPIRA Process of Leadership Development. ASPIRA of Florida provides youth with a variety of leadership development opportunities facilitated by its staff of young professionals who can relate to the needs of our youth, and provide educational services in a culturally competent and youth-focused manner.
The vision of ASPIRA of Florida is to “develop a better educated, more community conscious and committed youth”. To achieve this vision ASPIRA will seek to establish programs to serve first generation college bound and economic disadvantaged Puerto Rican/Latino and other youth throughout the State of Florida. In pursuing this vision, ASPIRA of Florida has already established educational programs and institutions in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. ASPIRA envisions establishing a major presence in selected communities across the state, and in so doing, become the first choice of funders of youth programs in the State of Florida. This vision can only be made possible by our dedication to the population we serve and our commitment to excellence. ASPIRA of Florida pledges to deliver quality services to our youth in leadership and academic development. We strive each day to make this vision a reality.
ASPIRA divides all program operations into three general categories:
- YLD Outreach – Youth Leadership Development Outreach is our flagship Dropout Prevention Program, utilizing the ASPIRA Club System to identify, recruit and deliver services.
- Charter Schools – the ASPIRA Charter Schools are Middle school environments creating an educational environment that will produce positive outcomes by raising FSA scores, improving student achievement, increasing school attendance, improving student behavior, and promoting parental involvement for our students and their families.
- Night School – the ASPIRA Night School currently operates only in the Homestead area at our Charter School South in Leisure City. This program centers around Family Literacy, ESOL, Civics Education GED preparation and Adult Basic Education (ABE).
