Ballet Flamenco La Rosa Turns on the Heat this Summer with Two Evenings of Traditional Flamenco – June 22nd, 2019
The Company’s Founder and World-Renowned Master Teacher, Ilisa Rosal, also Returns to Teach After a Two-Year Hiatus Due to Multiple Sclerosis
MIAMI, FL (Monday, April 15, 2019) – Ballet Flamenco La Rosa (BFLR), an international flamenco dance company based in Miami, brings the sizzle this summer with the premiere of its latest Flamenco performances Alma Flamenca and Fuerza Flamenca. Made up of dancers and musicians from Spain, Latin America and the U.S., the performances will take place on consecutive weekends in June 2019. On Saturday, June 15th at 8 p.m. the company will present Alma Flamenca at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center and on Saturday, June 22nd at 8 p.m. will be the presentation of Fuerza Flamenca at the North Beach Bandshell.
Led by the world-renowned master teacher, choreographer, soloist and Artistic Director Ilisa Rosal, BFLR presents the spellbinding and earthy power of authentic Flamenco dance at its best. With its spectacular footwork, precise athleticism and vibrant energy, the performances are at once sensual and spiritual, raw and refined, and filled with both restrained passion and electrifying release – making it a powerful and passionate language of expression. These productions will incorporate live music, created and arranged by a guitarist and singer, brought directly from Spain to collaborate with the company dancers and choreographers.
Born in Medieval Andalucía (southern Spain), in the Middle Ages, when Europeans, Arabs, Jews, Gypsies, and Africans co-existed in a Golden Age of art and learning, this art form has fascinated writers, poets, composers, painters, sculptors, choreographers, and audiences for centuries. It has developed into one of the most respected and cherished music and dance forms, evolving into the highest level of technique and artistic expression that has led to it being declared a World Heritage Treasure by UNESCO.
“Both evenings will connect with the soul of pure Flamenco music and dance. Audiences can expect a breathtaking theater experience full of its earthy power, spellbinding movement, subtle nuances, and explosive energy,” remarks Rosal. “The summer performances also mark a milestone in BFLR’s history as I’m returning to teach our classes after a pause to focus on my health. I can now put myself fully into it, mind, body and soul, and continue our legacy in offering the community diverse artistic experiences under one roof.”
After a two-year hiatus, Rosal will return to teach at the Ballet Flamenco La Rosa Performing Arts School, in collaboration with PAN, Performing Arts Network. The program features dance, music and theater classes in a nurturing environment for students of all ages and levels. The program will offer high quality training with small class sizes that allow students to have individual attention from professional artists that are among the best in their fields. It creates a fertile environment for future artists and audiences to grow.
Classes offered include Ballet, Cardio, Stretch and Barre, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Flamenco, Afro Haitian Dance, Belly Dance, Acting, Piano, Guitar, Vocals, Yoga, Music Writing and Creative Writing.

About Ilisa Rosal – Flamenco Dancer, Teacher, Choreographer, Founder and Artistic Director of Ballet Flamenco La Rosa and PAN, Performing Arts Network
Ilisa Rosal is an innovator in this art form, having created more than one hundred pieces in the pure Flamenco style, along with cross-cultural collaborations and dramatic Flamenco Ballets. She has trained many of the Flamenco dancers in Miami, who have gone on to form their own companies. Under her leadership, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa has become respected as one of the best companies in the US, consistently performing to full houses with standing ovations and rave reviews.
Ilisa Rosal’s training includes extensive study in Spain with Ciro, El Guito, La Tati, Azorin, Manolete, Paco Fernandez, Mercedes and Albano, Jose Granero and Paco Romero. In 1981, Rosal studied in New York with Jose Molina (Flamenco and Classical Spanish dance), Mariano Parra (Escuela Bolera), Jeanne Brescianni (Isadora Duncan Technique) , Rajika Puri ( Bharata Natyam ) and Charles Moore ( African dance ) . From 1975-1980, she studied Spanish dance with Luisita Sevilla and Jose Molina. She trained intensively in ballet with Susan Stadler, David Howard and Nanette Charisse and Modern Jazz (Luigi technique) with Beatrice LaVerne. She studied drama at the University of Miami and performed in community theatre throughout South Florida, then toured New York, Spain, and France with many Spanish ballets.
In 1985 Ilisa Rosal founded and became the artistic director of Ballet Flamenco La Rosa. This flamenco company has been invited to perform at major local events such as Ocean Dance, Pow Wow, Arts a la carte, Coconut Grove Orchid Festival, Miami Beach Arts Festival, Miami Dance Festival and the Florida Dance Festival, as well as national appearances in such prestigious events as the Vail International Dance Festival. She exhibited and danced at the National Dance Guild Conference and received four Dance Miami Choreographer’s Fellowships and three Individual Artist’s Fellowships for choreography from The State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs.
Ms. Rosal’s most recent works include “Señorita Julia” (Miss Julie) and “El Padre” (The Father) inspired by Strindberg’s Miss Julie and The Father, which premiered and in 2013 and 2015 at the Koubek Center and at the Miami Dade County Auditorium, and “La Gaviota” (The Seagull) inspired by Chekov’s The Seagull and “La Casa de la Muñeca” (The Dolls House) inspired by Ibsen’s A Dolls House, which premiered in 2017. In 2018, the company presented “Verano y Humo” (Summer and Smoke), inspired by Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke, which premiered at The Colony Theatre. In November 2018, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa presented “El Conde Drácula” (Count Dracula), inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula at The Colony Theatre, Miami Beach.
