KEYSTONE WELLNESS CENTER
Dr. Lauren J. Kolman - Chiropractic Physician - Board Certified Addictionologist - Certified Auriculotherapist
Dr. Kolman is a well known figure in the North Miami Community for not only her exceptional Chiropractic services but also as a consistent reliable volunteer for health education for the city of North Miami and local schools. What most people do not know is that Dr. Kolman's previous profession was first as a Social Worker and then a Special Educator in New York City for Emotionally Handicapped and Behaviorally Disordered children and adolescents in Residential Treatment Facilities. Today she is here with us to talk briefly about her very important work in the field of Addiction as the North Miami Director of Florida Partners in Recovery. Dr. Kolman continues sharing her time with M.A.D.A (mothers of adult drug addicts). M.A.D.A. is peer support group geared toward supporting family members of addicts whether they are in recovery or not. These meetings occur every first Wednesday of the month at her office at Keystone Wellness Center. She has taken Chiropractic to the next level by extending her work to people with the challenges of addiction, depression, and anxiety disorders. They are now able to be well, calm and at peace while participating more successfully in their other forms of therapy and mental health support.

HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHRISTIAN DAY SCHOOL
Sherri L. Blizzard, Principal of Holy Cross Lutheran Christian Day School, has been selected by the Center for Urban Ministries as an "Exemplary Lutheran Elementary School Administrator." The center for Urban Ministries is a program of Wheat Ridge Ministries, a Lutheran Agency dedicated to uplifting and seeding ministries of hope. One of the interests of Wheat Ridge Ministries is the health and well-being of urban education ministries. The staff of Wheat Ridge Ministries, in consultation with Lutheran education leaders around the United States, has selected Ms. Blizzard and nineteen other Lutheran education leaders to receive this award and an invitation to a special event called "A Flock of Eagles." HOWARD F. SCOTT, J.D. THE 401(k) ROLLOVER ADVISOR
     If you are about to change jobs, retire, or for any other reason receive a distribution of your 401(K) or other retirement plan funds, you will be faced with a very important question: What should I do to preserve and protect with my retirement funds?
There are actually many preliminary questions to be answered in arriving at the answer to this most important question. The first preliminary question to be answered is whether (i) to take a lump sum distribution of your retirement funds, or (ii) to rollover your retirement funds to an Individual Retirement Plan, an “IRA”. If you elect to take a lump sum distribution you will have to pay income tax on the amount you withdraw and a possible 10% penalty if you are under age 59½. You can avoid paying taxes and avoid the penalty on a lump sum distribution and preserve the advantage of continued tax deferred growth of your retirement funds, however, if you rollover your distribution to an IRA. While your individual circumstances will largely determine the answer to this question, arriving at the answer is made more difficult by the presence of some “exceptions” to the general rules. One exception allows you to take up to $10,000 in a lump sum and another exception allows you to immediately begin receiving retirement benefits without having to pay the 10% penalty tax, even if you are under 59 1/2 years of age. You will want to consider these exceptions before deciding whether to take a total lump sum or partial lump sum distribution or make a partial or total rollover of your retirement funds distribution to an IRA.
If you do decide to set up a rollover IRA for part or all of your retirement fund distribution, you will be faced with additional questions such as: What kind of IRA should you establish? Should you establish one IRA or multiple IRAs? Can you establish a Roth IRA? Should you establish a Roth IRA? What is a “Stretch IRA” and should you establish one? Should you set up an “IRA Rollover Trust”? Who will be the beneficiary of your IRA? The correct answer to these questions will again depend upon your individual circumstances and financial objectives.
After deciding on how many and what types of IRAs to create, you will next have to decide: What should your retirement funds be invested in?
There are unlimited investment choices available to your IRA. These include stocks, bonds, real estate, mutual funds, fixed annuities, variable annuities, indexed annuities, exchange traded funds and many, many others. There are also many investment philosophies and theories available and followed in establishing investment portfolios for IRAs. If you do not want to personally decide on each investment choice, you should discuss and establish the principles you want followed when your retirement funds are invested.
The guiding investment principle of The Rollover Advisor is to select investments that (i) minimize or eliminate the risk of losing any retirement funds already accumulated, but (ii) still afford the possibility of a reasonable return on the investments.

Robert Williams Moving and Storage
1956 was the year that Bob and Kay Williams put an ad in the North Miami Neighbors, purchased a truck and began by renting 3 storage areas on NW 7th Avenue, in the City of North Miam. Within a matter of months they had more work than they knew what to do with. The Education Fund
Since 1985, The Education Fund has worked side-by-side with the private sector to raise money and direct resources where they are needed most in Miami-Dade's public schools. The Education Fund's first program awarded mini-grants to classroom teachers. Today, The Education Fund runs 15 programs in the areas of teacher training and development, grants and resources to support classrooms, reading and literacy, learning with technology, and parent involvement. These programs benefit all of the 300+ schools and 19,000+ teachers in Miami-Dade County public schools. 
To celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we are proud to present The Education Fund's Great American Teach-A-Thon, a public awareness campaign to champion teachers and the teaching profession. The campaign is structured with a walk-a-thon design, but there's a twist: instead of seeking pledges for every mile walked, participants will seek pledges for every minute they “last” in the classroom. THE SEWING BARN
The sewing barn was created out of a need, a need to have a store close by where one could obtain fabric, craft and sewing supplies. Since Joann's and Ocean's of Notions closed down, one would have to go either to Hollywood to find the nearest Joann's or Hollandale to Wal-Mart or even Michael's for such supplies and this would be difficult, especially for those who use public transportation. Motivated by this especially because I personally rely on public transportation, and because there is no other store close by like Joann's, Wal-mart, Ocean's of Notions or Michael's.

I decided to go into business and with the love, help and support of my Husband James and my Daughter Krista, and many friends, The Sweing Barn became a reality. HOLY CROSS CHRISTIAN DAY SCHOOL
Soraya Trujillo is the Assistant Principal and Director of Development for Holy Cross Christian Day School located in North Miami on 135 Street. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Barry University in Business Administration, and then later received her Master's of Science degree in Elementary Education, again from Barry University. She has been working at Holy Cross Christian Day School for the past twelve years, where she began her career as a Kindergarten Teacher, and was promoted three years ago to the position of Assistant Principal.
Holy Cross has been serving the North Miami community for over 53 years. Classes are offered for in pre-school, elementary and middle school grades. Students receive instruction in a challenging curriculum, while enjoying many extra curricular activities. Holy Cross has a strong athletic program with volleyball, basketball and cheerleading teams available. Praise & Worship Team, a Sign Language Group, a Bell Choir, Student Council, and Patrols are a few of the opportunities students have to show their skills. 
Soraya has been working with other local organizations to apply for grants to provide better services to the students of Holy Cross. Thanks to the combined efforts of Trinity Church, and a grant from the Children's Trust, Holy Cross was able to provide summer camp to over 100 children last summer. The students received instructions in reading, art, music, computers, and swimming lessons. Holy Cross has received this funding once again from the Children's Trust and will be providing an enhanced summer camp this year.

DEBORAH GRAY MITCHELL PHOTOGRAPHY
Commercial and fine-art photographer, Deborah Gray Mitchell is predominately a portraitist, although she also shoots food and products both on location and in her North Miami studio. A Nashville native and a former County and City Club manager, Deborah moved to Miami in 1979 with the goal of becoming a photographer. After working with several successful photographers, Deborah started her business in 1981. Her commercial clients include the Florida Grand Opera, The M Ensemble, VITAS Healthcare, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Heidrick and Struggles, Purchasing Partners, and a long list of law firms, judges and publications. She's received many awards for her fine art photography, and her slice-of-life images have been widely collected by individuals and corporations.
She is the only woman to have served as president of the South Florida chapter of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and chaired the ASMP Chapter Presidents meeting in 1994. She is a past lay member of a Florida Bar Grievance Committee, former member of the Board of Directors of Photogroup, (a now-defunct fine arts photography organization), past president of the Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae Association for Miami and is currently serving on the North Miami Business Development Board and a founding member of the NoMi Merchants Association. 
Deborah began sharing studio space with fellow photographer Paul Morris in a funky warehouse on NE 4th Court around 1987. In 1993, they relocated to the mostly empty Miami Design District. After eight years and numerous rent increases, they concluded it was time to buy a building which brought them to North Miami in 2001. They found an old dog of a building with good bones and a great address, 12345 West Dixie Highway, bought it and began a total renovation. The building now has full occupancy with four separate photography businesses and the administrative offices of The M Ensemble Theater Company. The studio is also available for rent on a daily or weekly basis for photo shoots, castings, seminars and community functions.
